Professional Standards

Books of compliance, regulations, rules and guidelines are sitting on top of each other. The books have unique texts on their spines related to compliance subject.

When representing a buyer, seller, landlord, tenant, or other client as an agent, REALTORS® pledge themselves to protect and promote the interests of their client. This obligation to the client is primary, but it does not relieve REALTORS® of their obligation to treat all parties honestly. When serving a buyer, seller, landlord, tenant or other party in a non-agency capacity, REALTORS® remain obligated to treat all parties honestly.

Reach out to the Broker

Contact the individual's broker to inform them of the situation. Many problems arise from miscommunication, and direct contact with the broker may lead to a swift resolution.

Use the Ombudsman Program

A volunteer from the Texas REALTORS® Professional Standards Committee can act as a third-party mediator, explain possible resolutions, and answer questions.

File an Ethics Complaint

If contacting the broker and talking to an ombudsman doesn’t resolve the problem, you can file a formal complaint.

Arbitration

This process is used when you think you’re owed money based on an agreement.
